MANILA, Philippines — FitFlop is one of those brands that probably incorporated a ‘wearable workout’ concept into footwear. Its thick-soled sandals have become known for their supposed health and fitness benefits. These include toning of the legs, improvement of one’s posture and foot pain reduction (some even dub it as “therapeutic footwear,” which aids the recovery of some people in therapy after suffering from physical injuries)—all while walking casually.
Now, the brand is gearing toward more fashionable styles, as seen in its current Autumn/Winter 2011 collection. The idea is to give consumers more options for everyday footwear, after some (mostly women) clamored for more varied designs than the standard open-toed, wide-strapped sandal. “This is what we call a multi-occasion collection,” says FitFlop global marketing manager Irene Celli. “We realized that more people want footwear that’s good to wear for all year round. The reception worldwide has been phenomenal. People really look for something that’s comfortable but looks good as well. Consumers want quality and style.
